When key opportunities arise, the Foundation pursues smaller or time-limited projects outside of its strategic priority areas.

The Foundation is currently involved in three public policy projects:

An Analysis of the Texas Mental Health Code
Available to view or download, the 3rd edition of this popular publication incorporates recent changes to Texas statutes related to the civil commitment process.

Seclusion and Restraint Reduction
Since 2004, the Foundation has engaged in a number of activities designed to move forward the dialogue on seclusion and restraint use in Texas.

Austin Mayor's Mental Health Task Force
Foundation staff are actively involved in the ongoing activities of the Monitoring Committee of the Mayor's Mental Health Task Force in Austin.

The Foundation also has active public education projects:

80th Legislative Session
The Hogg Foundation tracks legislation relevant to mental health service delivery in Texas.

Robert Lee Sutherland Seminars
Biennially, the Foundation convenes a Robert Lee Sutherland Seminar to encourage Texans to work together to address timely mental health issues.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Resources
The Foundation has compiled resources for agencies wanting to learn more about the hurricanes' impact and for mental health professionals working with hurricane survivors.

Journalism Award
The James S. Hogg Award for Mental Health Reporting recognizes exemplary journalism that educates the public and counters negative beliefs about mental illness.

Mental Health Speaker Series
The Foundation periodically hosts free talks on timely mental health topics that are open to the community.
