Robert Lee Sutherland Seminar XVI
A Call to Action: Achieving Mental Health, Recovery and Wellness TogetherEncouraging and supporting mental health consumers, youth and their families on their journeys toward recovery and wellness is a priority for the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. Recovery is a journey of healing and transformation that enables persons with a mental health condition to live a meaningful life in a community of their choice while striving to achieve their potential. Wellness is an active process through which a person becomes aware of, and makes choices toward, a more successful existence.
Learning about mental health, recovery and wellness and understanding that recovery and wellness are possible is valuable for everyone. On October 7, 2010, about 180 stakeholders in mental health care from across Texas gathered at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The sixteenth RLS Seminar “A Call to Action: Achieving Mental Health, Recovery and Wellness Together,” hosted by the Hogg Foundation, established a shared knowledge base and sparked community dialogue about mental health, recovery and wellness.
Conference attendees learned about experiences with recovery and wellness from mental health consumers, youth and their families. Mental health leaders in East Texas and at the state level discussed how we can all work together to achieve mental health, recovery and wellness.
