Mental Health Conferences and Training Events

The Hogg Foundation periodically hosts conferences and training events in Texas about mental health topics and trends. These events are open to the public.

Young Minds Matter: Transition-Age Youth (TAY)
The transitional period from youth to adulthood, school to employment, dependence to independence can be stressful and troublesome for all young adults. This transitional time can be particularly difficult for youth living with mental health conditions and their families. TAY are faced with additional challenges as they navigate the complexity of finding new mental health care and support, employment and housing. In April 2013, attendees gathered for a one day conference in Houston to learn about this critical topic.

Young Minds Matter: Addressing Trauma's Impact on Children, Youth and Communities
Research shows that one in four children will experience a traumatic event or experience before age 16. How children and youth respond to and recover from traumatic experiences can vary widely, depending on their emotional strength, their ability to overcome the challenging situation or event, and the support they receive from family, friends and adults. In June 2011, more than 400 people attended the Hogg Foundation's free one-day conference in Houston on trauma's impact on children and youth, their families and their communities. A Call to Action: Consumer Empowerment through Recovery and Wellness
Encouraging and supporting mental health consumers, youth and their families on their personal journeys toward recovery and wellness is a priority for the Hogg Foundation. In October 2010, the foundation hosted a conference as part of a pilot initiative in East Texas to promote recovery and wellness, and to increase opportunities for consumers, youth and their families to participate in policy making, advocacy, design and delivery of mental health services, and peer services and supports. Young Minds Matter: Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Children, Youth and Families
In June 2010, more than 300 therapists, teachers, parents and others who work with children in the Houston area attended a one-day conference to learn about recent trends and strategies for meeting the mental health needs of children, youth and their families. Download presentations.
