Ima Hogg Scholarships in Mental Health

The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health awards up to five $5,000 scholarships annually to graduate social work students who demonstrate a strong commitment to providing mental health services after graduation.

Recipients must attend one of 11 Texas graduate schools of social work that are accredited or pending accreditation by the national Council on Social Work Education.

The scholarship program was created in 1956 at the request of Miss Ima Hogg to address the need for more trained social workers to deliver quality mental health services to people in Texas.

Eligibility
Applicants must be committed to pursuing a career in providing mental health services upon graduation. They must have completed (or be about to complete) their first year of graduate studies in social work and be prepared to enter their second year in the program in the fall of the award year. Students who have been admitted to a one-year advanced standing program beginning in the fall of the award year also are eligible.

Applicants also must be nominated by the dean or director of their graduate social work program to be considered for the scholarship. Each graduate school of social work may nominate up to three applicants. Graduate social work programs that are accredited or pending accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education are eligible to nominate applicants.

Application Deadline
The deadline for all 2009 nomination and application materials from the schools and the applicants was noon Central Daylight Time on Friday, May 22, 2009. Scholarship recipients will be announced in late June.

A call for applications for the 2010 scholarships will be announced in spring 2010. To be notified when these scholarships are open to applicants, please e-mail your name and mailing address to Hogg-Grants@austin.utexas.edu. You will be notified by postal mail and/or email.

Application Process
Deans or directors of eligible social work programs must email the names of up to three student nominees to the Ima Hogg Scholarships Committee (Hogg-Grants@austin.utexas.edu) by the application deadline. They also should notify nominated students of the deadline for submitting their applications.

Students who have been nominated by their school’s dean or director applicants must submit their application materials by the application deadline to be considered. Applicants will be asked to enter their contact information and upload the following documents during the online process:
