Hogg Foundation Report Examines Mental Health Bills Considered by the 81st Texas Legislature

AUSTIN, Texas – The 2009 Legislative Update is the latest in a series of reports published by the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health to inform stakeholders about mental health-related laws considered by the Texas Legislature.

The 53-page online report summarizes the most significant mental health-related bills introduced during the 81st legislative session, which ended June 1, 2009. The report covers 15 topics, including public mental health services, children's services, criminal justice, education, health insurance, juvenile justice, military veterans and workforce.

The Hogg Foundation was founded in 1940 by the children of former Texas Governor James Hogg to promote improved mental health for the people of Texas. The foundation's grants and programs support mental health consumer services, research, policy analysis and public education projects in Texas. The foundation is part of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin.
